At PsychologyCare, we know that beginning therapy is a big step — and finding the right psychologist can make all the difference. That’s why we’ve developed a unique, personalised intake process designed to help you feel supported from your very first interaction.
Rather than booking you in with the next available practitioner, we take the time to understand you — your goals, your preferences, your availability — and connect you with someone who’s truly the best fit.
Unlike many clinics where you’re expected to choose a therapist from a list, at PsychologyCare you’ll first speak with our warm and knowledgeable intake team — real humans who are passionate about getting to know your story and making a tailored recommendation.
This 15-minute complimentary intake call is an opportunity for us to learn more about:
Why you’re seeking therapy
Your preferences for therapy style (e.g. warm, direct, trauma-informed)
Any specific issues or goals (e.g. anxiety, relationships, identity, grief)
Your ideal availability, location (Malvern, Prahran, or Telehealth), and funding options (e.g. Medicare, NDIS, Private)
We’ll also explore what’s important to you in a therapeutic relationship — whether that’s cultural understanding, lived experience, IFS or EMDR expertise, or simply someone who makes you feel at ease.
Once we’ve gathered your preferences, our intake team carefully reviews our roster of over 25 skilled psychologists, clinical psychologists, psychotherapists, and counsellors to recommend the practitioner who aligns best with your needs.
We believe that the right match is essential for effective therapy. A good therapeutic relationship is where the real healing happens — and it’s something we prioritise from day one.
Once we find your ideal match, we’ll book you in for a regular weekly or fortnightly appointment time. Unlike other clinics where you might have to wait weeks between sessions or struggle to get consistency, we’ll hold your time slot just for you, so you can focus on your progress without the added scheduling stress.
We understand that therapy can feel like a vulnerable process. That’s why we offer this intake call with no obligation. It’s simply a conversation — a starting point — and we’ll be here when you’re ready.

One could argue that it would be abnormal to go through life without experiencing some form of mental health issue. Emotion is what makes us human. Suffering following a trauma or a stressful and difficult time in one’s life is only to be expected. Clinical Psychologists can help in these instances by using specific types of therapy such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (a brief psychodynamic therapy), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Existential Psychotherapy with the precise aim of tailoring treatments to meet the individual needs of clients.
