Dr. Stephanie Stewart

Psychologist

Education:

Doctor of Philosophy University of Melbourne Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) University of Melbourne Bachelor of Science in Psychology (Honours) University of Canberra Bachelor of Arts in Psychology University of British Columbia

Stephanie is a Registered Psychologist who completed a combined PhD and Master of Clinical Psychology degree at the University of Melbourne. She has experience working with people in difficult circumstances and people who experience the world differently, including asylum seekers, people sleeping rough, voice hearers and adolescents and adults who are neurodiverse.

Stephanie is warm, non-judgemental and collaborative in her approach to therapy. Her practice is both affirming of the humanity inherent in even our most difficult and ‘othered’ experiences, and attendant to the ways in which we are all unique and uniquely situated. At the centre of her practice is respect for self-determination, our right to define a meaningful life for ourselves and to make our own choices. Stephanie has a particular interest in working with people who feel subject to their thoughts or impulses, rather than in control of what they do.

It is important to Stephanie that her practice is safe and affirming, including for people from the LGBTIQA+ community and culturally diverse backgrounds. Her practice is informed by knowledge of systemic injustices and their effects, and the impacts of interpersonal and other forms of trauma.
