Oliver was inspired to become a psychologist after working as a personal carer in a public hospital, where he witnessed the therapeutic value of listening, non-judgement, and compassion. He remains committed to these principles in his clinical practice, where he strives to build an authentic and trusting relationship with clients to work through whatever challenges they may be experiencing. Oliver holds a Master of Clinical Psychology from the University of Melbourne. His primary modality is Internal Family Systems (IFS), a non-pathologising therapy that helps people better understand and work with their different ‘parts’. Oliver is trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related problems. His work also draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) using experiential techniques. Oliver has worked with older adolescents and adults experiencing a range of mental health difficulties, including depression, anxiety, trauma-related distress, substance use, grief and loss, identity concerns, and relational issues. Oliver has published research on trauma-informed care and is passionate about creating a safe and inclusive therapeutic environment where healing can occur.
